THEY DID IT

Normally, I’d like to review each game and give my thoughts, but there’s only one appropriate reaction to the current state of our New York Knicks. GO NEW YORK GO NEW YORK GO!

The New York Knicks absolutely dominated Games 3 and 4 in Cleveland with Jalen Brunson being named the Eastern Conference Finals MVP. They completed their second straight sweep to finally reach the NBA Finals after 27 long years.

As a lifelong fan, it feels absolutely surreal. The Knicks for most of my life have been a dysfunctional organization and have lost a lot of games. With the exception of a few years, the team almost every was not in the postseason.

Now! They not only have made the NBA Finals, but they have done so in historic fashion. The Knicks became the fifth team in NBA history to win 11 straight playoff games. They have won these games dominantly.

So dominant in fact that it has been done with the most lopsided span of games in NBA history. From a three, four, five… all the way up to fourteen game stretch, they are +271 in these playoffs. That is an average margin of victory of 19.4 points per game. You guessed it, the highest in NBA history.

Much has been made about their path to the NBA Finals and the weakness of the Eastern Conference. While it is a known fact that the Western Conference is the stronger conference, the media and “experts” are rewriting the narrative.

During the regular season, the top 4 seeded teams in the East had a strong 18-15 record over the top 4 seeded teams in the West. The East was very strong all year with teams, who did not even make the playoffs, that gave the top teams trouble like Charlotte or Miami.

Prior to the first round matchup against the Hawks, they were the hottest team in basketball, finishing the year with a 20-6 record in their last 26. Many people believed they were the toughest first round matchup the Knicks could’ve drawn.

When the Hawks went up 2-1 after their miraculous two 1 point victories, it appeared that the inconsistencies of this Knicks team have come full circle. The Knicks responded with wins by 16, 29, and then an extreme 51.

Going into the 76ers matchup, it was believed that Philly had the best two players in the series and would be able to handle New York after coming back down 3-1 to the favorited Boston Celtics. They were not able to compete with New York and with the exception of Game 2 winning by 6, the other wins came by 39, 14, and 30.

Panic is a financial news strategy. Clarity is ours.

Markets move. Headlines catastrophise. But somewhere inside the noise is the story that matters — the opportunity, not the fear.

Finally, after Cleveland beat the 1 seeded Detroit Pistons, they were seen as a formidable opponent and the most talented team in the East. The Knicks swept them as well with wins by 11, 16, 13, and 37.

And while we didn’t know the third largest postseason win streak or doing it by historic margins were on the table, this Knicks team have been at the top of the league with their West counterparts for months now.

Since their terrible 2-9 stretch following their NBA Cup win:

  • Best Record: 1) Thunder (38-11) 2) Spurs (41-12) 3) Knicks (39-13)

  • Best NET Rating: 1) Knicks (12.5) 2) Spurs (11.3) 3) Thunder (9.8)

  • Best Offensive Rating: 1) Knicks (120.9) 2) Spurs (120.5) 3) Thunder (119.3)

  • Best Defensive Rating: 1) Knicks (108.4) 2) Spurs (109.3) 3) Thunder (109.5)

The New York Knicks in the NBA Finals and are legitimate contenders regardless of who is coming out of the Western Conference. Congratulations to the New York Knicks, New York Knicks fans, and New York City. Let’s go get us that Larry O’Brien!

GO NEW YORK! GO NEW YORK! GO!
