The Ultimate Tune-Up

Following the wire to wire win in Memphis, where the same issues of this Knicks team seemed to show once again, the Knicks were dire need of a tune-up.

A necessary “feel-good” game prior to the last four games and then the eventual game one of the NBA playoffs.

This Friday Night Knicks game vs. Chicago was all that and more. All players finally healthy, while they did sit Karl-Anthony Towns, this was a great opportunity to build some chemistry and absolutely pummel a weaker opponent.

Behind OG’s 31 points and 8 rebounds and Mitchell Robinson 17 points and 10 rebounds double-double, the Knicks soared to a 136-96 victory.

What is the biggest takeaway from the game? Absolutely nothing. At this point in the season, there is nothing you can take away from games with tanking teams.

And to be quite honest, I’m not sure if you can ever take anything away from these types of games.

These next four games against top eastern conference teams will be a great measuring stick to where this team is before the playoffs.

Add that with the fact that this Knicks team hasn’t beat an over .500 team in over a month.

Tonight against Atlanta, the Knicks meet a team that have won 18 of their last 20 games.

We have seen all year that the Knicks are a very up and down team based on their attitudes and feelings. When their jumper is falling, their defense is strong and they are beating good teams. When their offense is stagnant they allow it to take a toll on their effort.

That applies to this last week and these four games. If the Knicks look strong, finish 3-1 record, and they are competitive. This will definitely have an effect mentally on this team going forward.

Will this Chicago game serve as a kick starter to a turnaround leading to a strong finish, or will it be another bad team the Knicks added to their resume.
